Did not work. It must recognize that it is a zipped file. Darn it. oh well it was worth a try.

I am being told that my imported models are screwed up is why I am having trouble with mapping.
Attached is a Inventor part that I normally import into max. Is this something you could take a look at and see if the problem lies there? Lets see if this zip file will post…

I reduced the other file down to just a couple of parts and it is down to 522 KB. Wonder why max size is 3500KB but yet I can only seem to post about 52KB?

The model import is fine and is not what is causing the issue.  Oddly, and this is one I haven’t seen before, the problem is caused by having the object set to use By Object in the Rendering Control of the Object Properties.  Select the affected objects, right click and select Object Properties from the lower right quad and change the By Object to By Layer and the problem is solved.

IBD! WOW! Unbelievable! Well I guess I don’t have to learn how to model in max yet. ha. Thanks a ton Stephen for your help! I still want to start learning max modeling but there sure is a lot to learn. Did you get up early like at 2:15 just to work on my problem???

No problem.  We all have to start somewhere and it’s nice when you can get some help.  There are some really good tutorials on the Area on poly modeling.  And one of these days, I should get off my lazy butt and write up a tutorial on the session I presented at AU three years ago on how to work with imported Inventor geometry for sectioning and things.  Have fun with it!
