Ok so this is what I am doing:

1. Main Computer> I run a Manager
2. Main Computer> I run a Server which connects to the Manager (no problems here).
3. Main Computer> I run a Monitor.
4. Second Computer> I run a Server, it connects with Manager on the Main computer no problems.
5. Main Computer> I click connect in the Manager and it connects showing both computers available and idle.
6. In 3dsmax 2013, I choose Network rendering and it pops out the window where I leave options as they are and click connect in the available server list it only shows the Main computer the other one is not there (although it is in the Monitor list). When I start rendering only one computer is used for the process.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you put Max on the second computer?

(Edit)
Side note: As you expand and grow your farm it is wise to NOT use the same computer to render and manage the farm...It is also wise to run the Manager on a server based OS.
Others will have varied opinions on this but it is what I recommend.

Hi Doughboy12,

I have had only backburner on the second computer, should I have max installed over there as well? I did a quick install and tried it now, for some reason now backburner server on this computer is trying to look for a manager over the 224.0.0.0. I tried putting the name or the 255.255.255.0 but nothing works.. I think I will install backburner on top of everything again to see if this will help

Don’t use the IP address, use the computer name and don’t use automatic search feature.

Since Manager and server are talking to each other per your original post, let’s just make sure of the basics before delving into networking -

Are you rendering an animation or a single frame?  If you’re only rendering a still, only one server taking the job is expected behavior, as each render server will render one complete frame independently.

To get multiple computers to work on a single frame, you enable ‘split scanlines’ in the job submission dialog, or use Mental Ray’s Satellite feature or VRay’s Distributed Rendering feature (both of which bypass Backburner altogether).

Thank you guys for your comments, I don’t really know why but it works now what I did in order was:

1) installed Backburner downloaded from autodesk latest one without 3dsmax on second machine and it didnt work

2) I have installed max with its Burner on second machine and it still didn’t work

3) Next day after reboot probably it works so I think maybe max is required alone burner is usless

Anyways all is fine now

Depending on how you specified the path in your render settings it Backburner might not be able to save the final image to your local disk.
You should always use UNC paths when network rendering to avoid problems.

Hope that helped!
