Hello,

I need some direction on how to render my model out to a vector file.  My objective is to create a scene that can be zoomed into for a website project I am involved in.

As far as I can tell, VIZ 2008 does not have this capability, unless anyone can instruct me otherwise.  I have found a plug in that seems to be a good candidate, called Swift 3D Max (from Electric Rain) but the trial version I have downloaded & installed is not working - Viz doesn’t recognize the renderer.  The support folks at Electric are of no help, I have yet to get a response from them.  We are willing to purchase additional software to make this work, but not if the trail version isn’t working....

My deadline is approaching, any recommendations for plug-ins would be much appreciated!  Thanks.

Not a Vis user, but it does have mental ray, like Max doesn’t it? If you turn on the mr Contours, there is a Contour Output shader “Contour PS” that will render to PS vector files.

Thanks for that, I gave it a try and the image is still a pixelated, not a true vector fomat.  The more I zoom in the fuzzier the lines get…

You still get the usual pixel render, but if you instance the Contour PS shader to the material editor, you can set the output for a PS file too.

Could you please elaborate?

I turned on mrContours and assigned a output file to the Contour PS shader. However the ps file turns up empty.

Is there a specific material that has to be assigned to the objects?

Yes the material must have a contour shader applied to it.
You should get a file like this.
