I don’t think you can render the Cone - it’s just there in the viewport to act as a guide.
Select the Spotlight, expand the “Atmospheres and Effects” rollout, Click “Add” and choose a “Volume Light”. That might give you the effect you’re looking for. Remember to turn Shadows on or the effect will continue below the surface of the counter.
Max 4.2 through 2013.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

i used to work with 3d studio max for years and using the volum light effect to make the cone, but again AUTODESK VIZ doesnt seem to have this option .i am in the learning process of this viz render program and i dont like it so far..it is not as complete as 3dstudio max .

I’ve never used Viz, only Max. The only thing I know about Viz is that it’s a cut-down version of Max. I guess you found a cut…

There is a HUGE difference between VIZ and “VIZ Render”.
VIZ is a standalone program - very similar to MAX. It has volume lights.
“VIZ Render” is the rendering system built-in to AutoCAD. Also known as crap.
Sorry - that last part is just my opinion....

I think you’ll find that the full AutoDesk VIZ package has nearly everything you’ll need. All you’re giving up from MAX is character animation, sub-object animation and some other odds-n-ends. It’s more than capable for most architectural projects and quite a bit more affordable than MAX.
“VIZ Render” is a waste of your time and energy.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I’ve never looked at anything bearing the Viz name so I wasn’t aware that “Viz Render” was part of AC rather than a standalone app.

The confusion between Autodesk VIZ and “VIZ Render” is quite common.
In fact - I teach a “VIZ Fundamentals” class. It’s a 3 day hands-on course to get people up and running with Autodesk VIZ. One of my classes included a student that didn’t even own Autodesk VIZ - it took her all three days to realize that she only had AutoCAD Arch-Desktop with “VIZ Render”.
Needless to say, she was a bit put-out to find she had wasted all of that time.... I’m sure her employer who paid for the course was a bit bent as well.....
One of the major marketing boners from Autodesk.
