2 monitor setup help

hi this is ganesh.

i have LG FLATRON E700SH 17 “ monitor.  i use 3d max for making walkthroughs & some 2d softwares for making print adds.

i cheacked with my gpu its XFX N-vidia 7600GT 256 mb ....  & has 2 monitor slot on back....

i want to setup for 2 disply when workinh with 3d max .... so i can put floting windows on 1 monitor & main working screen on other 1....

my question is do i ned to buy same model of lg or i can buy any 17 “ monitor & it will support my gpu..  my current monitor max resolution is 1280 * 1024 ( 32 bit )

& also if yes how can i configure max & windows to support 2 displys

i m using windows xp pro. sp 2

The monitors don’t have to be the same brand or physical size (you can even use one CRT and one LCD), but Max really needs them to run the same resolution.

Windows won’t care - you can have 1 monitor at 1280 and one at 1024, and extend your desktop to both, but Max isn’t written to cope with that. Provided the two are the same resolution you can simply drag floating menus and poups (including the command panel) onto the second screen, and they’ll stay there each time you run Max.

(if anyone thinks (but of course your second monitor can be lower resolution!) then try floating the command panel, and opening the modifier pulldown. It’s coded to use the main UI’s vertical bounding box value as the coordinate of the bottom edge, so you can’t access below halfway. Sub-panels on the stack do the same.)

So you can use two monitors on Max, just the floating window?
