Hey.

So first let me say Hi to this community as I am new to Area and I have created this account to post this question, as I am in need of drastic need of help.

I’m ruuning an i7 with Max 2010 Education Suite 64 bit, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and dual monitor setup.

I have been running this set up up until now happily. (Appologies if there is already a post for this but I could not find any)

When opening Max it displays the ‘Loading’ screen on the primary monitor but then opens the untitled screen on neither of my monitors. This is a very hard to explain ‘glitch’ so please bare with me.

I have attatched several screen shots for this.

As you can see when opening max the window is on neither monitor and opens over to the right. When right clicking and trying to move it from where it appears to have opened the mouse snaps to the far edge of the screen so I can not access the window to move it.

when clicking Alt Tab Max is clearly open but it does not view on either monitor.

I have tried changing settings such as using a single monitor, changing the res, multiple display options, main display options, ‘Change Graphics Mode’ options Open Gl, I have tried preety much everything, tried re-installing Max too but to no avail.

I am drastiaclly running out of options and am in desperate need for any help/ideas other than re installing Windows (which I may have to do) as my company is suffering drastic down time.

Any and every help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dan

Hi Dan

Is this a new problem – i.e. did your duel screen setup ever work properly and what graphics card and driver are you using?
Does it all work OK with just one monitor?

Check your nView settings. Someone else had a similar problem quite recently - nView was the cause of the problems.

Hey Ed,

Yes my dual monitor has lwas worked properaly, I have recently upgrade one of my monitors but all has been working fine. I also bought a new GFX card GTS 250 and again all has been fine up until the other day (about 5 weeks 8 weeks since my new GFX card)

DRivers are all up to date since installation ill find and post driver when i find them and havnt updated since. This has happened suddenly. and no, it does not work correctly with 1 monitor it still opens to the right, and as im not using SLI i cant test whether it will be resolved with 3 or 4 monitors.

-Steve thanks for the info ill check the nview settings asap and post my findings; all though i have never used NView (nor have i heard of it up until now TBH) I dont see why/how these setting could have changed.. if you could link the thread to the other guys recent problems I would appreciate it should you come across it please.

Thanks both for your help and any additional help or info on this matter is really appreaciated.

Thanks again

-DC

My memory is obviously failing :(

It was the “desktop wizard” (whatever that is) which caused the problem in this thread.

Try renaming (temporarily) the various configuration files.
3dsmax.ini is the main one - located (in XP) in the enu directory highlighted in the image. The others are various MaxStart* files located in the UI folder below the enu one. Note that the location on your system will be different (Win7 vs XP).

Search for “3dsmax.ini” - ensure that you tell the search to Include Hidden Files and Folders (in the Advanced options).

Hey all, shortly before being all ready for a re format I trried one last time to fix this issue by mass clicking everything in the ‘Display’ ‘Screen Resolution’ screen.

So firstly I took my PC home, from its original location at the office where it was connected to my dell U2410 monitor, as I have no other monitors at home at no point were 2 monitors connected.

Upon booting up I can confirm max still did not open correctly so it was not the fact i had simply switched monitors that had fixed this.

so here is how i fixed it..

see attatched pics for a step by step guide :)

I hope this helps and a big thanks to the Area community for you help and support in this matter, it has been greatly appreciated.

Thanks again ‘edpoxon’ and ‘Steve_Curley’
