I`m having similar problem with 3ds max design 2009. I also have autocad 2010 installed.
Problem is, that 3ds max activation crashes when I click “activate product”. I tried it to install to other PC, and activation worked correctly.
Any solutions how to fix it?

Uninstall AutoCAD 2010, Activate MAX then reinstall AutoCAD. that worked for me. some aspect of AutoCAD 2010 conflicts with the VIZ/MAX 2008 and apparently MAX 2009 activation. once activated the program should run fine with AutoCAD installed. it’s the activation program that crashes and not VIZ/MAX itself.
