Hi everyone,

I have two options that I’m considering for my system:

Budget-based Opteron
TYAN S2927A2NRF-E NVIDIA nForce Pro 3600 ATX Motherboard
Dual AMD Opteron 2358 Barcelona 2.4Ghz processors
8GB RAM
2X Seagate Barracuda 7200 / 750 GB
950W ATX SLI Crossfire Pwr Supply

Higher priced Xeon
Super Micro X8DAL-I Mother Board
Dual Xeon e5520 2.26 Ghz processors
6GB Memory
GeForce GTS 250 1GB PCI Express SLI
2X Seagate Barracuda 7200 / 750 GB
800W ATX SLI Crossfire Pwr Supply

Which do you feel is the best choice? If the Xeon is only marginally (5-10%) faster, then I may opt for the Opteron to save some money. If the Xeon clearly outperforms, then I’ll jump for it.

Thanks very much!

Moving this to the Installation-Hardware-OS forum as more appropriate for this topic.

There are many, many threads in that forum on this subject - reading through them may well be useful.
