It had to happen eventually.

I tried to install Max 2012 on my laptop and found I am now sadly behind in the technology stakes. My specs are not up to scratch. So, time for a new laptop.

Problem is I can’t find where to locate information on just what display cards I should be looking for in my next laptop.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Will an nVidia GEforce525M with 1gb do the trick? I suppose I also need to consider maximum real estate - probably looking at 1280 x 960 or thereabouts.

Currenly looking at a Dell i7&2630QM with the above mentioned graphics.

Any help appreciated.

If you have to use laptop instead of regular PC and you have enough money, you could try laptop with nVidia Quadro Mobile graphics card, especially when you are planning to use GPU based redering.

Take a look here:

Hope that helps.

I’m not after a super graphics card, on the contrary, just something that will work most cost effectively with max. The laptop is to be used as a support and not as a main system.

Is there a list of specifications for graphics cards? I just don’t want to buy another laptop and not have it work with max 2012.

Moved to the Installation-Hardware-OS forum as more appropiate for this question. Search this forum (Hardware) as there are a number of threads on Laptops.

Also, your (probably accidental) duplicate thread has been removed.
