| Hot fix and SP1 install problems
|
|
|
Does anyone know why i am having problems installing the hot fixes and SP1 for Max 2009 Design.
I wiped a render node and was reinstalling with XP64 bit and i installed Max 2009 64 bit and 32 bit. Then tried to install the service Pack 1 and it says that the proper software does not exist for the SP1 then if i try the hot fix i get an internal error.
Then i tried to put in the hot fix on my new win 7 64 bit machine and almost the same thing happens. for the Max 2009 design 32 an 64 bit copies it gives me the same errors. For the Max 2011 copies the 64 bit hot fix worked but the 32 bit one gets the same internal error.
What gives?
I am currently switching from Max 2009 to Max 2011 and from 32 bit to 64 bit which is why all the different versions.

did you get the right version for each, if you have standard max you need to get the hotfix/service specific for it or specific for max design

The Max 2009 2010-06-07 Hotfix requires ALL previous SPs and Hotfixes to be removed first. This is very clearly stated in the associated readme.
As noted above, ensure you have the correct download and make sure you are logged in as administrator.

XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).

Funny i finally found the proper ones for Design a few minutes ago. I had searched before and didnt notice them. And the ones that i had for updating before didnt say Design on the files so i guess that was what confused me the most.
The Windows 7 Max 2011 32 bit still illudes me.

Ok, so on my other xp machine the Service pack and the hot fix are listed int he Add Remove programs list but not on my main workstation. But i know that they are there and if i want to put the latest hot fix in i need to remove the other one.
What up with that?

As for the SP vs Hotfix issue, see Shane’s blog, view all comments, last page. Read the 1st few posts, from the bottom up.

So you take that is i should uninstall the SP as well as any hot fixes?
To me it seemed that they were separate things.
Or are you talking about this error i am getting now?
“Error creating Autodesk 3ds Max 2009 (32 bit) plugin instance”

That was related to the 2009 problem. I uninstalled all patches for 2009, as per the blog suggestion, before applying the latest HF, which installed without error.
I’ve not had any obvious problems since installing the (2011) hotfix. If the hotfix is giving you problems, as it would appear it is, you can try uninstalling it but I don’t know if that will cure it.

Yes i found a few posts about this same error after installing the latest hot fix so i am not alone but not sure what the answer is. I could try it again but it is doing the exact same thing on two different machines and the one machine was brand new so didnt have any other hot fixes on it but it did have the SP..
Thanks
