I want to buy my self a new pc and I have heard that the processor i7-2600k is a good one.
I have a Q9650, anyone know how different the render time will be with i7-2600k?
I have also considering to buy i7-990, but heard that i7-2600k is faster for rendering in 3ds max.
But how much?

I found this render test with a project file.

It would be nice if anyone with i7-2600K could test a render so I can see. I did not find anyone there with i7-2600K.
My render time was 6 minute and 25 sec with Q9650 and 8 gb of ram in 3ds max 2010.

I just spec’ed a new workstation with an OC’d i7-2600k but haven’t received it yet.  It’s only a quad-core vs. some of the hex-core i-7’s you can get.  The hex-core i-7 (depending on the model) might outrender the 2600k because it has more available cores, but I chose it because it will be faster on non multi-threaded applications.

It is a very solid CPU but you may be better of with 960 or 970 if your main intent is rendering in max… You mentioned the 990 above but I think you may be confused because its about 3-4 times more $$$ than the 2600k....  not really fair comparing the two.  (the 2600k will NOT outrender the 990x)
