I’m trying to transfer my license between 2 computers.
Computer #1 - max 2010 registered and activated - Standalone license
Window XP sp3 - 32 bit
No problem finding transfer wizard in start menu
Works fine exporting and bringing back
Computer #2 - max 2010 installed but not activated
Windows Vista 64 Premium
PROBLEM No Wizard in Start menu
I Installed the network license thinking this is what is needed
Does not appear to help me. It is a license transfer utility for use on a network.
What have I done different not to have the standalone license wizard installed on
Computer #2.
This is a subscription for 4 seats. I am going to be using 1 seat so I
do not want to activate the copy of max on computer #2 as this will
use another one of our seats.
Trying to find any help at all on this topic in max help seems to be completely
useless.
thanks for any help on this.

Answered part of my question!!!
I have found the standalone transfer utility.
It wants me to input the sn and product key.
This will activate another one of our seats.
What can I do about this???
Thanks,

I think if I let the trial license expire I will be able to import the transfer license..
I’ll just hae to wait and see if this works.

Hi, Mark,
First, since the transfer utility is shared across many products, it has its own self-contained help file. There should be a Help button on every dialog.
Second, I believe the problem you have with computer #2 is that you installed the network version. This does not include the license transfer utility, since it’s irrelevant.
You can do what you want—share one seat across several computers, one at a time. In fact, some professors transfer all the licenses back to their PC at the end of a class, and then transfer them out one at a time as needed. One PC can store multiple “instances” of licenses for the same product!
You can also transfer the license before the trial expires. If a PC has more than one valid license, it uses them in the order they were created, so there’s no need to transfer before the trial ends… but you can.
There’s no need to activate a standalone seat in order to use the transfer utility. Just start max, use the trial, and then transfer back and forth.

Hello Cy,
Thanks for the very informative reply.
>There should be a Help button on every dialog.<
Found it.
>Second, I believe the problem you have with computer #2 is that you installed the network version.>
I’m ok on this. I deleted the network transfer option which I installed. Did not install the network
version of max.
> One PC can store multiple “instances” of licenses for the same product!<
What we want to do is have the 4 seats on 4 different computers. Then have the option of all 4
computers being able to transfer the license to another computer. We would be using 8 different
computers but only have 4 active at any one time.
We will just use the trial on the second computers invloved until the trial period
runs out, then we will use the license transfer.
I appreciate your reply and and again thank you.
