I suddenly lost my MAX icon. When browsing my 3D drive, every max file shows as a generic windows icon instead of a max icon.
I guess Windows has somehow lost the icon association (the icon is still in the ui folder), any ideas how to get it back?

Got it fixed, thank goodness. It was very annoying to look at a listing of 400 files and not able to visually spot the right ones!
While I was at it, I realized I could do my own personal icons as well. Awfully tempting… :)

I ended up using a neat freeware called Types. After manually altering registry and using everything but the kitchen sink its rather ironic a simple app fixed it in two seconds.
