Today i installed a new graphics card Nvidia Gforce GFX 550 Ti and ever since that, my view ports in 3DS Max are very sluggish, pretty much unbareable, as well as the screen flickering when rotating or moving. I never had this problem with my old graphics card and it was 3 or 4 times worse than the new one. I thought it could be a DirectX issue, as its very sluggish in DX9, but when i switch to DX10 its smooth but everything also flickers and only shows random edges with the wire frame enabled. Im running Vista Home x64, with 8gb RAM, and a quad core intel processor. I really hope there is a fix as this is really putting me behind in learning/working!! never a good thing! Thanks for any help at all! I appriciate it! I'm going to get new machine and one of the first requirement is to get more mobility. I'm in architectual sphere and since most time of work i building models (3ds max) and drawing a plans (AutoCAD) so real powerfull machine i need just for rendering so i'm thinking that laptop + render server (also known as render node or render farm) combo will much better for me than powerfull notebook. Also i fall in love in Apple technics, so macbook air will be very elegant and really portable solution for me. BUT! Exploring software compatibility problem i'm get that often people in internet say's that mba's integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics 3000) is unusable for 3d modeling and even for Cad work. I understand it but i dont get what precisely people mean for "3d modeling" is it just building model or they mean complete work with texturing, rendering etc. So i decide ask here is render server will placebo for me? Because i need just build models and just draw plans. No renders on mba. Is mba's intel hd graphics 3000 powerfull enough? What about coming 4000 on ivy bridge? As far i'm going to use 3ds max that have only win version i'm going to use windows OS (dual-boot, not virtual machine) and as results win's AutoCAD (also i heard that mac's AutoCAD work i little bit slower, so gues i win some performance there) meanwhile getting pleasure from mba's awesomeness. =) Also i think will appropriate to say that i work with not so big projects mostly its private housing so i estimate my models and plans medium complexity. Thanks! 2012-05-24T06:21:48+02:00 Midrange professional workstation vs High-end home PC http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/midrange-professional-workstation-vs-high-end-home-pc/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/midrange-professional-workstation-vs-high-end-home-pc/page-last/#When:07:15:31Z Hi Everyone I'm just after some free advice really. I'm about to update my PC and have narrowed my choice down to two of a similar price. I mostly produce high res architectural images but occasionally get involved in animations. I would appreciate your preference "A" or "B" though any other wisdom would be gratefully received. This machine would be dedicated almost exclusively to running 3DS Max. Ofcourse, the best for me is if anyone who is using 3dMax has a great experience with a specific pc. I use 3d Max for both interior design as well as animation. Thanks in advance. 2012-05-14T06:10:07+02:00 3DS Max immediately and frequently crashes despite recommended resources being satisfied http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/3ds-max-immediately-and-frequently-crashes-despite-recommended-resources-being-satisfied/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/3ds-max-immediately-and-frequently-crashes-despite-recommended-resources-being-satisfied/page-last/#When:19:37:29Z I have 4 GB of Ram, 1 GB of VRam and a quad-core @1.6 ghz processor. Albeit I am on a laptop, all of these conditions are well over the required limit set on Autodesk's 2013 requirements page and are slightly higher than the recommend requirements. Should I not be able to render simple scenes with substance maps or simple effects in FumeFX? Unless there is no more than one or two objects in the scene and it’s only made up of primitives, on render 3DS Max thinks for a few seconds and then crashes without fail. I’m trying to render one small MR light and a cylinder and it will not work despite them being the only thing isolated by themselves in the scene. In 2012 it stops responding for a minute or two, then returns and the render bar finishes loading but before any images are displayed it crashes. I don’t think it’s a RAM problem as it’ll still render the high poly troll-cleric sample that’s given to you in the scene folder without a hitch. Perhaps there’s a way I can render in sections? I know you can save the render to a file but it always crashes before it even has time to start saving. I have lowered all the poly counts of my each of my models exponentially only to see absolutely no change in the render failure process. In Task Manager it never shows me using more than 10% of my CPU usage or 60% of my Physical Memory usage yet right after I press the render button 3DS Max hightails out and crashes immediately. Attached is my scene. If there’s something anyone can suggest, that would be very helpful. Thank you for your time. 2012-05-11T19:37:29+02:00 Can USB Installation Drive be formatted for general use? http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/can-usb-installation-drive-be-formatted-for-general-use/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/can-usb-installation-drive-be-formatted-for-general-use/page-last/#When:17:02:12Z I have an extra USB installation drive from Autodesk. I am looking to purchase a new computer box. My main question is in regards to Maya, 3Ds-Max and RealFlow. I have been trying to figure out the best box for calculating Fluids and Rendering. So far I am going back and forth from a i7 or a Xeon setup, but mainly the graphics card is where I am getting stuck. I have been looking into the GTX 680 sli or GTX 690. Along with a Tesla card and 32gb of ram. Would it be better to stick with a Quadro card in processing dynamics or would it not be much of an issue with the consumer based card 680/690 due to the many Cuda cores and Nivida no longer making Performance drivers? Also is it worth while to have a Nvidia Tesla card using those sorts of programs? Any Ideas for a good setup? Any information would be awesome! (Im sure you've all seen this before) http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/quadro-or-gtx-im-sure-youve-all-seen-this-before/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/quadro-or-gtx-im-sure-youve-all-seen-this-before/page-last/#When:19:01:54Z Hi there, Firstly I apologise greatly if you've seen this thread too many times but after the research I have done on the internet not one review will ever conclusively give an answer to this question, and each reviewer usually says one is better than the other at what they are designed for. My question is, is it worth paying for the Quadro 4000 (Im looking at using it for 3ds Max Design, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD) or for a GTX 580. The GTX 580 can come in models with VRAM of 3GB. The Quadro although is has drivers written only for the CAD type use. This is what confuses me because many say the speeds for rendering are much better than the GTX series. Although some people will say I'll get exactly the same performance. So rendering wise in 3ds Max, is the Quadro worth the drop in money? Or is the GTX 580 a better choice to go with? Which do you think is better for the programs I listed above (absolutely no gaming)? Kind Regards, Jack. 2012-05-08T19:01:54+02:00 CPUs & GPUs http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/cpus--gpus/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/installation---hardware---os/cpus--gpus/page-last/#When:05:44:36Z First Question: Does having multiple processors make a difference over a single CPU?
