Hi,

Was just wondering if anyone out there knows of a permanent fix or patch for 3dsmax 2010.

My problem being we have Symantec endpoint protection installed on our network and since the install it stops max2010 from opening, it appears in the Task manager ‘Processes’ briefly then disappears.

I’ve managed to find a fix for a locally installed Norton SEP:
http://avatechsupport.blogspot.c...interaction-with-3ds.html

Which is fine and allows max2010 to open but on shutdown the network refreshes the settings for Norton SEP then i have to reboot and modify settings every time i startup.

Just wondered if anyone else has this problem and had a permanent fix as the temporary can be quite annoying, having to rebootx2 every time and this also limits me to only having one maxfile open at a time…

Anyone’s help will be muchly appreciated,

Cheers

You’ve answered your own question - “Symantec blocking...”. Nothing wrong with Max, Symantec on the other hand…

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

Fair enough.. Guess i’m stuck for now then. I would happily remove symantec but its my companies Antivirus and i don’t think they want to change it for my problem.

You are right though...but its hard to see who’s at fault, there’s a conflict somewhere and personally I’m not too bothered if its Max or Norton, individually their fine, together not so much.

Just thought as this was a Max Forum i thought i would see if anyone else had the same problem and knew of some way to fix it with Symantec still enabled.

Oh well, Thanks anyway :)

I suspect it’s a Symantec problem so maybe post on their forums?

You’re fine coming here asking… Nothing wrong with asking, especially if somebody else may run into this same problem and may have already solved it.  That’s the purpose of these forums. Good idea to check the symantec side also as thd real problem may lie with that.

Maybe try starting max as administrator to see if that does anything? Right click 3ds icon, run as administrator.

Stick around, great place to learn get problems solved.

Thanks tim :) Yeh i’m more used to the 3dsmax community than seymantec seeing as i’ve used it for last 4 yrs and my time with seymantec = 0.

Tried the admin suggestion but to no avail. The problems not critical as I have a temporary fix for the moment, but like you say there’s no harm in asking :)

It seems i’m not the only person with this problem, the post above this one had the same issue :) And for any desktop running SEP locally it can be fixed, my problem lies with the network. The solution definitely revolves around the seymantec settings as theres not alot which can be done on the max side… Just what settings is the problem :)

I’ll keep an eye on this post though and see if anyone else comes a cropper.

Thanks very much for the help, always appreciated!

OT Microsoft now has a very minimal free antivirus software btw… works nice...not bloated etc. I “personally” like better thean the other free AV software.

Yeh i personally wouldn’t touch symantec or anything norton related for that matter.
But i found the solution in the end!
are you ready....

...un-install symantec :P

I told our Tech guy i was fed up of restarting 5x a day to get one copy of max open. So he uninstalled it and now i can open more than one max file at a time! With no restarts..

At least people who use symantec + max for personal use can use this post to fix it.. just not if symantec is installed via a network.

As AV’s go i use ‘avast’ for personal use… Simple, Free and it talks to you :) http://www.avast.com/index.html
