Hi,
Actually I have Core i7 920 SLBEJ on asus P6T, with 8Go ram.
I need faster PC, but following processors is a nighmare ... Would an i7 2600K be faster, or should I go for i7 990X ? I need at least 1.5x faster for 3dsmax rendering.
I also read a lot on P67/Z68 chipset, P67 having a bad reputation. Any insight ?
What about GTX 580 for viewports ? I may switch to max2012/nitrous when all recompiled plugins are available.
Thanks

Hello there..
Honestly, I can’t figure out how much faster will a system be considering those options simply because there are too many variables on the list (regarding components and user preferences/style). It’s a fact that i7990X is faster and the i2600k can be as fast if properly overclocked but asking for 50% more in rendering performance is in my opinion, way off the scale.
The P67 / Z68 chipset: Avoid the P67 for the time being. Too many random reports of power loops and other issues with the P67 with most manufacturers labels. Many say it’s a BIOS problem that eventually will be resolved but the fact is: It’s not 100% fixed.
The GTX 580 is a good choice. Keep in mind more memory in the GPU = less blinks on the display and more stable FPS.
Good Luck!

If you want faster Max rendering, get the new machine and keep the old one as a render slave.
