This image is using all free photometric lights. I want to use a spot style light to achieve a wall wash in the bathtub area for example. I changed the lights above the tub to mr area spot lights and they don’t render. I’m using 3ds Max Design 2010, mental ray, mr photometric with gi. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

I’ve got the same issue.
Try to enter 100, 1000 or more (you have to expreriment ;] ) in Multiplier (Intensity/Color/Attenuation) value in mrspotlight properties.
It helped in my case.

I would actually recommend finding an IES file for a spot light similar to what you have modeled. There are some out there that will give you a very realistic look, with the minor variations in the brightness near the cone that would add some realism.
Check http://www.erco.com or other light manufacturer’s websites. They usually have the IES data available for download. Some even have a 3D file of the fixture itself.
