Gamma in a callibrated monitor

Hi guys,

I’ve some questions about Gamma settings so to begin discussion I like to know whether in a calibrated monitor “3ds max Gamma option” should be enabled or not. (assume we use Gamma and Gain shader for every input bitmaps and this monitor have a Gamma value of 2.2.)



Mental Ray User
Intel Core i7 920 @2.67GHz, 6 Gb Ram 2000, GeForce GTX 470.
Windows xp 64-bit SP2 & Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
3ds Max 2011 SP1 & 2012 64-bit.

In order to have correct physical workflow, u should still enable the gamma options in max.
The process of calibration only teaches ur monitor and video card how to correctly display the colors…
The linear workflow inside max is completely separate thing, that tells the render how to interpret the light, the colors, etc. inside the virtual world.

If u add gamma and gain shader to each map, u can simply let the “input gamma” field to 1.0.
