Mental Ray in 3ds Max vs Maya - Any Difference?

Hi! 1st post here, so forgive me if I err. I’ve just started learning 3ds max recently, & don’t know much about it.
My cousin has a Digital Tutors DVD which deals with Mental Ray rendering, but its a Maya based tutorial set.
So my question is whether there is any difference in the Mental Ray hosted in 3ds Max vs the MR in Maya. Can I use my cousin’s DVD to learn about Mental Ray rendering in 3ds Max?
