| Mental Ray settings problem
|
|
|
Hey guys,
I’m trying to render out my first interior scene with MentalRay and the gnomonworkshop tutorial.
But anything is going wrong with my MR :(
When I click on render, first all is black, it says that MR is processing, then the rendered picture appears for a second and then the whole image is changing into white.
So there’s only a white picture in the end :(
Anybody maybe knows what I’m doing wrong?
Best regards,
Speedtouch

Can you be more specific, Sonny?
Tell something more about the render settings, exposure control and so on.
Post an image of the view-port, containing the render settings dialog.
You can also post a zipped max file.
Someone here will take a look and give you the right tip to get rid of the issues you are struggling with.
It is always useful to tell which version of max you are running.
It seems to me the problem you are having must be something fundamental and we will find the way out of it.

ok sorry, my first post here ...
so in the Render Setup I only changed the Image size to 420*280px.
in the Exposure Control Panel I’ve chosen the “mr Photographic Exposure Control” and then the “Physical Based Lighting, Indoor Day” - Preset with Exposure Value 10.
I use a mr daylight system with mr portal lights.
I’m using 3ds max 2012 x64 student edition.
I’ll attach the .max file of the project.
I had to delete all the interior so that the document size wouldn’t be greater than 3,5 MB)
If you need any more informations, screenshots or whatever, please tell me.
Thank you for your help!

If you want to attach a .max, you MUST zip it first - see this post for further help with attachments.

Hi Sonny,
Your Max file is somewhat corrupt; I have no time now to delve into it to find the exact evil, therefore I merged it into new clean Max Start file, just to be able to take a proper look into the matter.
I don’t know where you got the tutorial and what was the workflow used; here are just the issues I did find there:
Instead of daylight system, you are using an assembly of a compass helper and an orthographic standard light.
Portal lights need Skylight to work properly; this configuration can hardly be a working solution for the Photographic exposure as well.
The ceiling is an invalid object – has no thickness MR doesn’t like this.
What I did;
I merged the content into a new file; deleted the Light assembly: created a Daylight system with MR Sun and MR sky and gave some thickness of the ceiling assigning a Shell modifier.
The posted Image show what I got after that; take a look into it.
Below is also a zipped file that is your own file with the small changes I did.
