Hi all.

I cant believe there has been no previous thread on this (but i’m sure I have seen it before though). Anyway, I have made a very simple animation render using MR (no GI, using standard lights, standard materials and some arch materials). The result is a shimmering animation around areas where lights are shinning on it.

Has ppl come across this before?
What is it?
Why and how do I overcome it?

note: I have also tried rendering it to tiff files then comping it (with and without compression) but no luck.

I have to resort to using scanline at the mo.

regards

It’s been covered many times before here.
You say there is no GI. But you do have FG on, yes?
If so, that’s where the problem is, you may have to pre-render an FG map.
Do a search on “Final Gather map” or “flicker” or something, to find more info.
That’s if you are using FG, if not, are you using shadow maps, they can flicker sometimes. And the materials, you say they are Standard and Arch, by Arch do you mean mr Arch & Design or the Architectural materials?

Oh god I’m so sorry. This subject has been covered many times. I have been searching for keywords “flick” instead of “flick*” so I didn’t get that many threads.

Samab, you are right. I am using FG (but only cos it is the default). I will read up about FG maps and flickering.

Cheers.

There may be some relavant threads in this search.
The correct method depend upon the type of anim, whether the camera moves and the scene is still, of if ther is animation in the scene or lighting.
