I want to render a single object or maybe some selected object in a scene, they are planes with tree images. I want everything else not to show up but still have the lighting shadow etc the same. I want to take this image and use it in photoshop for composition. I cant find the answer to this anywhere. I am either: A- clueless B- trying to do something no one does C- it cant be done.. I know C isnt an option. Pls help. thx! I am using max 2010 and vray latest.

Apply a Matte/Shadow material to what you DON’T want to show up.  Save the image with the Alpha channel, and use that when compositing to remove what you don’t want to see.

Ivan, good solution but he said he wanted the lighting and shadows the same.

My suggestion was just the beginning Chris, because Maguai was not very precise in his post. You did the nest step down the long road thank you! :)
