My quadcore is an E5620 with 12gbs of ram
and my dual six core uses e5645 and has 24gbs of ram

But on backburner the quad renders same speeds if not faster. I also noticed my dual six core is only rendering with 34% power and not using 100%

Any idea’s as to why?

And what Max version and SP?
I remember there being a problem with Max on twin six core machines, I don’t recall the details but I think it got fixed in an SP.

I don’t remember where I read about that problem. I though it was in Ken’s blog, but can’t find it there. Anyone remember it?
What does Task Manager show for CPU usage? Does it use a bit of each core, all of just some cores, or a bit of just some cores?

A simple solution i’ve resorted to is doing multiple renders on the same comp since its not utilizing all the CPU

on the quad core its using all the cores, on the dual six core it uses half the cores, and half the power of each core.

just did a render to test. the quad core used 70-80% of cpu and rendered image in 9:53

the dual six core used 20-30% of cpu and rendered the image in 10:24
