How do you load the AVI files into the material editor? do you select the box next to duffuse or do you open the get material? i have a short animation that i want to play on my model tv i heard you can do this in max from a tutorial from VTC but the trainer does not tell you how to load it in

Yes, just select the avi in place of a still image in the Diffuse Map slot.
Max 4.2 through 2013.

i know but i don’t see the AVI file in that list or do you just select bitmap? and the avi will open once you select it?

If you mean in the Material / Map Browser then yes - select Bitmap.
Max 4.2 through 2013.

The menu needs to look like this (See Attachment) “Avi” or “All files” must be the selected item. Anyway if you are running a 64 bit version of max and the Avi file is a compressed one you very probably will not be able to load it in the material.
