I am trying (poorly) to figure out how to get a cloth material to show translucency with out transparancy.

the simple scene is a curtain mesh hanging infornt of a window inside a room. the only light is a daylight system, and there is only this one window.

As the curtain partially hangs across the window i am expecting the faric to show the shape of the window in a lighter colour.

i am using a plain A&D material
solid colour for now

im sure i am missing something simple so if any kind soul can put it in idiot terms (ie step by step) id be very happy

translucency with out transparancy.

The way A&D translucency works, you must have some transparency to use translucency.
It’s not that obvious until you understand how it works.
First you set the amount of transparency, that is including translucency.
The Translucency, when enabled, is a weight factor of how much of the Transparency you set is translucent.
So if you want it to be translucent, and not transparent at all, set the Weight to 1, and use the Transparency value to set how translucent it is.
Does that make sense now? Try it.

Thankyou!

i knew that [i think] but was starting with the weight option and getting lost.

I’ll add what i found so as to help any others struggling with this :) [feel free to comment]

curtains02.jpg
transparency=0.15
translucency weight=1.1

so would it be true to say that 100% translucent 0% transparent isnt true to the real world. as i notice it appears correct on the curtain
but it casts Full shadow on the floor 7 NO colour.

a little transparency {0.15} + translucency {0.5} works better :)

Thanks again
