Hi all I know this is a bit silly but I just downloaded some new materials and I can’t get them to come up in 3ds max at all. I tried putting them in the material library folder and they won’t show up, are they supposed to go somewhere else? Thanks for the help.

Assuming it’s a .mat file then it doesn’t really matter where you place it.  To load the material you’d just open the .mat file from within the material editor options and navigate to where you stored it on your drive.

hey jeff That’s great news I just don’t know what options your talking about the only way I know how to navigate through your drive to get something in the material editor is when you select the bitmap option but that’s not for .mat under the options tab I haven’t found anything that would be of much help to me.

Depends on which Material/Map Browser you’re using.

For the legacy one, BrowseFrom: Material Library, click Open, navigate to the .mat.
For the new one, click the arrow by the search field, Open Material Library, navigate to to the .mat.

In both cases a fairly standard “File Open” Dialog opens so navigating around shouldn’t be too difficult. Drag from the library to a free slot (legacy) or into the workspace (slate).
