Place the Bitmap in the Map slot of your Material via Material Editor ("M" key) and assign the Material to your model.
Please go through the tutorials on Materials and Mapping.

thanks for the reply. i have bee dealing with max for the past few months not that long of a time but yes i know how to apply materials. and i know how to assign map for bump and displacement, but this is new for me. i just did not find more information about it i try the help file that comes with max but i am not getting it at all :( ! i also try to find some more info about that as well but i guess i am missing something. how would a regular .bmp file do the job. let say i put it on the spot for the diffuse map and then it is not coordinated at all just sits there on the middle of the object i am applying the material. writ now i am reading a tutorial for how to use the unwrapping but i rather know how to import my texture from zbrush. if you have any ideas what do i need to do i will be very thankful . have a god day now and thanks again
and something else if i could ask i am probably getting new computer and not sure would 64 bit really be a lot better for 3d stuff?

I am unclear on what your problem is. It sounds like a problem with export setting from ZB.
Perhaps this may help.

thank you one more time.I’ve read that topic ant many more but is a bit confusing for me. yeaa i could not configure my question good because i am not sure neater where my problem is :) ! i just need to find out what is the routine for importing textured model from somewhere else to max? what do i need in order to bring in the colors. is it normal map? and then put it together in max. not sure what exactly to ask. i just have my model in z brush and i will like to bring it to max and i know how to export the model just as obj but then i am not sure what do do with the colors! i realize my question is probably silly but i have to ask. thanks once again! good day
