I use Mental Ray for rendering all of my images except for things that don’t work wiht MR, like Afterburn. Commonly I like to setup those passes with a MAtte Shadow material on everything the afterburn smoke will pass over or around..

But with a lot of objects it becomes a real task to do that. I use RPManager (FANTASTIC TOOL BTW) but alas.. I see no way to easily set a lot of objects to render with Matte Shadow, as with the MR Material override..

RPManager’s RPMAterials is one way but it is also laborious to set that up for an entire scene..

Andy suggestions? I am using Max 9
Thanks!

You could try Lukas’ L Pass Manager. He started work on this in Max 9, should still work there.
