Hi all,
Does anyone know of a good procedural skin texture?  I saw one in the downloads section for Maya, but not Max.

I’m using Max 2009, rendering with the built in Mental Ray Renderer.

Free is nice, but I’ll pay for things if I know I’ll get what I want.  ;D

Do you have that DVD and recommend it or do you just know it’s out there?

I just know’s it out there. I don’t deal with skins really

yeah i like training dvd’s better then books because you can copy this teacher as he is doing.  but with books you have to stop what your doing and read what the author says and continue lol

In the material editor, check the incompatible box and it should list
SSS Fast Skin Material and SSS Fast Skin Material+Displacement
SSS stands for sub-surface scatering. It’s worth googling to read up
on it.
There are ~40 parameters you can tweak, so it’s worth learning about the
technique before you dig in.

You could also try translucent materials, not exactly the same, but I’ve seen
some interesting results using it.
