I’m trying to make a texture gradient based on the distance from the center of the object. so it goes from white to black based on the distance for the center of the object.
help, please!

You can use a Falloff map for this.

You can set up a Falloff map like this.
Although I have found a bug with this when the object is animated. If I render a single frame somewhere on the timeline, the falloff map follows the animated object, but if I render the whole sequence, the falloff map stays in the same place from the first frame while the object moves.

Looking at the original question, I may have over complicated the solution. The Falloff method is to make the gradient relative to another object.
If what you meant was the gradient is relative to the object it’s self, just a simple Gradient or Gradient Ramp, set to Radial will work. Then the UVW mapping will determine the centre placement.

Great idea though! You could simulate lighting when overt objects pass over others!
