Hello, everyone…
I’m having a strange problem when I use a composite or a mix map in the bump slot. Basically, I get no bump effect, even though the result of the mix or composite shows a clear black and white map.
See the attached sample file. Open the material editor and there are three colored materials in the bottom row. For the purposes of this experiment, I created a jpg that consists of a black circle on a white background. There are three spheres, each with one of the three materials applied to it.
The BLUE material is on the left sphere. Here I simply put the jpg in the bump slot. You can see a clear bump effect in the render.
The PINK material is on the middle sphere. Here, in the bump slot, I’ve placed a mix map. I made the JPG the mask, and I left colors 1 and 2 as black and white. No bump effect.
The GREEN material is on the right sphere. Here, in the bump slot, I’ve placed a composite map. The first layer is simply the color white. The second layer is the color black with the circle JPG as the mask. No bump effect.
Why do the PINK and GREEN materials not work? In other words, why can’t I build a bump map using the composite or mix map? Is it a bug? Or am I missing something important?
(These materials are the illustrate the problems only. I realize that the PINK and GREEN materials are more difficult than they need to be just to make indented circle shapes. These are simply tests for more complicated materials I would like to make that will require me to use either a mix or a composite map in the bump slot.)
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I’m getting a headache over this one!
Thanks,
Tony
