I’m modelling a low poly building and beginning to texture. I’m using a UVW map modifier, occasionally it seems to be ignored and reset for no apparent reason, and whatever changes I make to the UVW gizmo are ignored, and randomely turned back on for no apparent reason.

Any one have an idea what i’m doing wrong?

Check whether the Map Channels in the UVW map modifier and the Maps into the Material Editor are the same ones.

I suspect that you added the UVWMap modifier while you had polys selected. Like many modifiers, the UVWMap works on the current selection which is probably, in this instance, not what you want.
Delete the UVWMap modifier, de-select any polys, vertices, edges etc then select the object itself (exit any sub-object level) and re-apply the UVWMap.
If you alter the object’s topology under the UVWMap or if you alter the current selection then it may well go wrong.

A simple example would be:-
Create a Cylinder with 6 height segments.
Convert to Editable Poly
Select the two middle rings of polys and while they are selected, apply a UVWMap and set it to Cylindrical.
Create a Standard material with a Checker Map in the Diffuse Map slot.
Increase the 2 Tiling values to 4, click the “show map in viewport” button.
Return to the Material level and apply it to your object.

Thanks all for the helpful replies. It seems that I did have some polys selected when I applied the UVW map.

Again the help is much appreciated!
