I too am looking for a way to “Warp Texture” within mr, & the link looked very promising Samab but I see they do not support mr (as you noted). Sorry, it’s late :(
Does anyone know of another way to implement a “Warp Texture” like FooTools created that will work with mr? This feature would be oh so handy.

As far as I know, none exists sadly. :( All we can do is continue to gently push adesk any way we can to have them make a builtin warptool for max that supports both scanline and mentalray.

Thanks Neil. Do you have any suggestions on how to keep gently pushing Autodesk/mr towards a warp texture shader? In other words, I’ll be glad to put my two cents in if there is a constructive manner of so doing.
Crap! I just figured out which “Neil” this is… :) Heck! It’s because of watching your video that I’m looking for this “Warp Texture” tool. Love your work by the way.

Hehe, glad you like the video.
No real advice on how to nudge adesk, I’ve personally had a very difficult if not impossible time of it myself. I did post my wishlist a few years ago as a way to promote public discussion (http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_tools/cg_wishlist/cg_wishlist_max.htm), and it did work in terms of public response, but it hasn’t resulted in a lot of new features in the actual product. So I’d say just continue to make threads, post bug reports, add it to wishlists, if you know any adesk employees, ask them if they could speak up. Whatever you can think of.

Well that’s about what I expected for a reply, so I will try to keep being persistent in my quest; although, I’m sure several individuals at Autodesk are pretty tired of me by now. :)

You should be able to use the Binary Alchemy shader, from Maxplugins.de:
15.09.2009
This shader warps your texture coordinates using a color input. The red input warps the U coordinate, blue warps V and green warps W.

I like these, I’ve been having a play with the Fractal and Cell shaders, but I don’t see the Warp shader in my browser. Anyone got a clue?

Never managed to get that thing to work. If anyone does get it to work, would love to hear it. But I think this is something that needs to be in the base package.
