Hi,

Any ideas for how to “read” external data,
and using it to move an object in Max (2008) viewport ?

For example with filesystem:

Maxscript loop:
- Read x,y,z from file
- move box to x,y,z
repeat

Is there any better/direct way of moving an object in Max from external program (based on realtime X,Y,Z position data)?

You should search this forum - there are many threads on reading
external data. It is also covered (with examples) in the Maxscript Help.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).

Not sure how “brave” you are, but you could check out the midi drivers.

Appropriately named “Motion Capture” in the Tools panel.
