I was working in max and i must have it something. Now all i have is the cursor and cannot move in certain directions on axises or on the other scale and rotate tools. looks like i must have turned off some kind of axis or something.

I am working on the tutorial file in max. The low-poly-character on the eyes. now i cannot move the vertexes where i need to to continue.

Any help would be verry much appriciated.

Thanks,
BombChickaWahWah

or (since this is a maxScript forum) type:

actionMan.executeAction 0 "401"

into the listener and press enter.

Sounds more like Axis Constraints than a missing gizmo.

I’m having it to… pressing “x” don’t work - the xyz axis is simple replaced by this “icon” that shows you’re holding something - some other forum said pressing “tab-x” works but that was version 5 or so of Max, doesn’t work anymore in version 2010 here.. really stupid cause neither reloading the scene nor UI works

anyone..

Views (menu) | Show Transform Gizmos

This is totally the wrong forum for this question - if you tell us which version of max you’re using I’ll move it to a more appropriate one.

Tip. Put you Max version, and brief system specs, in your sig, then we don’t have to keep asking.

[edit]
Mind you, seeing as this thread is almost 2 years old I’m guessing that won’t happen anytime soon…

Nice bump Boomer :P

If you’ve still got a problem I would start a new thread in the Max 2010 forum. And include a screenshot if you can please.

No I tried reloading the UI panel (every aspect: shortcuts, images, etc) - restaring max, restarting the computer, loading the standard UI from max (mental ray) - the show tranform gizmo is when u press X - i know this

This change of icon is another kind - a very irritating one - your x and y axis are combined in one so when I front or side view the XY are active and you can’t pick either one, in the perspective view you then have the xy move according to the last 2D view you were in and the rotate & scale ability are gone - you can only move by cursor now

what this does is kind of obligate one to use the pop up window and scale - rotate - move with that

I tried about anything but no luck finding anything it happened when I was using my keyboard’s shortcuts - my fingers kind of fly on it all the time I must have pressed the wrong keys this time and I couldn’t relocate which buttons I pushed to redo the action

and old thread via google said “tab-x” does this however that was an old version so I guess i’m shit out of luck cause it doesn’t work in max 2010 + no one else has experienced this before O_o must have been some secret shortcut lol

Reinstalling Max now - bummer

No - they are different options.

Views Menu | Show Transform Gizmos is very different to Customise | Preferences | Gizmos (tab) | On (which is what the X shortcut toggles).

You really shouldn’t need to reinstall yet, and it probably won’t help unless you “follow the rules” which I’ll bet you haven’t.

Instead of a reinstall try renaming your 3dsmax.ini then restarting Max.

And while you’re at it - an image please? I have never seen anything like that which you’re describing so it’s VERY difficult to offer any less drastic suggestions than that above.
