By my nature and I guess how I approach my modeling with zero tolerance for errors. I demand of myself & my models be the super detailed.

This brings me to my questions…

1. I have been using Daz3D’s Hexagon 2 to model a Fire Engine with I have design. I used a 1:1 scale because that I can make the objects as detail as I prefer. I’m wondering it’s wise or preferred to use 1:1 Scale in 3ds max?

2. Is there a best way I can import my Fire Engine in 3ds max?, because I have been working on this single truck for over 3 years and I have maxed out what Hexagon 2 can do. I haven’t finished the Engine yet, this is why I moved to 3ds Max.

Thanks,

1. It’s always a good idea to model to real scale for Max. The trick is to choose apropriate system units for the size of the model at the start, then work to scale.
2. What export file types does Hexagon support?

Hexagon 2 exports to the following file types CAR (Carrara), A3D, OBJ, 3DS, DXF, DWG, STL.

I see that it exports to 3ds but I’m not sure how the “groups” that I used in Hexagon 2 will affect 3ds capabilities to handle the file.

Also the file size is about 50 mb.

OBJ may work. I would try them and see what works best. 3DS, although an ancestor of Max files, is old and limited in what info it holds. May be OK for just a mesh model.
