3D model from an AutoCad drawing?

I need to model a rather complex mechanical thing. Well, its actually almost done but I got an AutoCad drawing of the thing so I was thinking, is there is a way to get a true 3D model out of that drawing? Never dealt with AC files so was thinking whether there’s something I could use in the future.
