Hi
i have attahed my ear-pirece file in max 9 i have done this thing before but i am having problems
i have a number1 cylinder and i have made copies around the ear-pirce base. i have attached the rest of the cylinder apart from number one i went to boolean and select number one to cut holes in the mesh but for some unknown reason max will not cut the holes into the mesh. I did this once before and it worked but now no luck

It is working Anthony, but you will have issues with this mesh; see Attachment01.
It is a bad mesh, you are having overlapping faces. Boolean always need to be prepared and cleaned up after it.
See Attachment02, you need completely different surface configuration to avoid the mess. Keep that in mind, Boolean is a reliable tool, but need to be used the right way.

yeah ivan this was done from a maya tutorial and that has different options so it not hard to follow but different ways around it in max.
back on topic, When i try it max does not cut into the mesh, when i try and boolean the cylider into the base. My max just leave me with a blank face with no holes. i have tried the pro and the normal boolean but it still does not like it. maybe i am doing something wrong but i don’t see it, maybe i’ll model it again and see if the same thing happens.
if you have max 9 can you upload the file?
Cheers

Sorry Anthony, I didn’t save the Max file with the correction I did and I don’t have the time to do it again right now; in the attachment is your own file containing a copy of the model with Boolean applied.
Keep in mind that Boolean is working better when the operands are having simple modifier stacks. Collapsed models are always better candidates for Boolean operations.
Also you must always collapse the Boolean object into editable poly; otherwise max is getting instable and can crash.
