Here is a modeling task I am wondering if anyone has suggestions.

I want to move the top edge of this form up but keep the verts of it in tangent with the edges I have marked in blue.

I use conform to edge constraint all the time to move my verts, but now I want to go in the opposite direction beyond any edge to constrain to.

I can think of lots of relatively cumbersome ways to do it involving extra temp objects but it seems like there might be a cool trick for this that I am just too dense to have come up with.

If there is a technique for this it also seems like it will be a very handy thing to know as I feel that I run in to this relatively often.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can constrain a selection to move along an edge axis with the Graphite Tools in Max 2010.
What version is it?

I’m using 2010, I was suspecting it would be Graphite tools that had a solution.

But there is no edge to constrain to.  A vector can be inferred from the edge below the area but I want to to up above into the area where there is not yet geo.  So it would be like projecting where an edge ought to be based upon the existing edges.  Can Graphite/pboost do that?
