Has anyone run into this?

I would like to shift and drag to extrude an open edge in local space on a single axyz. But when I do it does not follow the local direction, instead it goes of at a different angle and the gizmo changes. I am using Max 2010 and have not run into this before?

Image one is the edge and local direction I would like to move (Z). Image two is what happens when I shift drag.

Cheers.

I just tried it in Max 9 - does the same thing. Try using the Extrude Dialog (Edit Edges rollout) - it seems to extrude the Edge along its Local Z axis, which is what you’re after. Otherwise, Shift+Move it but only a small amount, then drag it into position.

Max 4.2 through 2012 (SP2+SAP).
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

Hey Steve thanks. I was sure that I used to do this with no problem before but I guess not. I don’t really want to use the extrude dialog every time as it is just an extra step or two in a simple process. Let me know if you find anything else out.

Cheers.

I was not able to reproduce the issue in Max 9.
