Hi Everyone.

I’m new to 3d Max, I have version 3ds max design 2012.  I am very familiar with Rhino though, if that helps in your replies, but i’m having trouble modeling this sofa.  Can anybody help?

your having trouble with nurbs in max, you should be able to knock it out easily with nurbs it could also be done as splines

I’m just not sure where to start.  Would I be able to make the seat part in one piece, or divide it into two pieces?  Which tool will give me the outward bend in the arms and back?

you can really just pick your own poison really… as long as you get the job done ya know?

Splines would definitely be easy to do this with. I am a box modeling type of guy so I would start with a cube and subdivide it up and push and pull vertices to get it to the correct shape. You just have to find what you find comfortable using.

hope that helps

yeah, it’s hard for starters to start something unknown, but I suggest you to try it yourself(this will give you huge experience for the future).

watch this tutorial on similar furniture(you’ll need to register there), it’s quite interesting and show you how they do it
