After several hours/days of tying to figure out Hair and Fur for grass. Ive decided that it just wasnt made for grass. Maybe just not for Mental Ray. Ive found a great plugin and this particular one is for max 8 and 9. For some reason, the author calls it Granny TIC.

A note from the author:

I’ve recompiled grass granny TIC for max of 8 and 9 (32-bit and 64-bit). The plugin died after max 5 came out, but thanks to Eric Peterson, who gave ME the SOURCE code, and Kyle Strawitz, who got the ball rolling, grass granny TIC is bakes.

Install it in your stdplugs folder.

Also, heres a great tutorial for it.

Yes, I tried Supergrass and it locked up 3ds max and my computer. And this was just from manipulating it in the viewports! i didnt like it at all. Ive noticed that Grass-o-matic seems to be better at memory issues and options.
