I heard from an inside source that Maya will be becoming the new 3ds Max, but that AD has just not set a date for it yet.  The source also said that 3ds Max will be becoming 3ds Max Design only.  Has anyone else heard anything of this nature, and if so, where does that leave us - the 3ds Max user?

Truly there is hardly any difference between 3ds Max and 3ds Max Design, but where would that leave us as subscribers?  At this point it’s only hearsay, but truly I see this a strong possibility given the source; plus, it kind of makes sense.  My personal opinion is that I’ve always thought it was silly to have two different versions of a software that’s for all intent purposes identical, but I view it as a marketing campaign by AD to lesson the fears of the design industry towards the software (3ds Max).

Anyway, don’t take this as me trying to start an inflammatory thread because that is not the case; I’m just interested if anyone else has heard of something similar.

This makes no sense. I’ve heard the same old stories for years since the purchase of Maya. I wouldn’t worry about it.  It’s probably bunk.

There was a guy at cgtalk who said he heard something similar:

Thanks for the link.  So I wonder where this will leave the 3ds max user?  Will they be able to keep Maya for the subscription if they are subscribed to Max, or will they be force over towards Design?  Either way it says a lot for the path 3ds has been taking lately - not really sure I’m overly joyed for sure.  It would have been nice if AD could have just said what their plans might have been years ago; that way the users could have had a fair shot at what software direction to go in.  Ultimately I know this little tidbit does not make it true, but I feel pretty certain it’s not far off.  Thanks for the post.

Wow, don’t listen to anything that doesn’t come directly from ADSK them selves. People post grabage like this all the time. Probably came from a Maya guy that thinks all others are not worth anything but have never used them.

When Ken posts something then listen.
