I just inquired whether support will be added for 3ds Max 2010 to Nvidia’s Maxtreme driver for their Quadro cards. The Nvidia support person, Mike, responded:

“This will be included in the next release 190 driver, currently planned for late October 2009.”

Got this info from my local 3D Appz and GPU Dealer.

Don’t get too excited folks, I just installed it and it sucks. My viewport shades worse than with the previous Quadro driver 191.07 (i think). The lights don’t shade properly, and I get horrible technicolour strips when rotating in a perspective view.  The cherry on top is that the maps look terrible too.

I am using Max 2010 (32 bit) with a 2.9 ghz i7 system 4gb ram and a Quadro FX1800 with windows7 (64 bit). Oh well let’s hope the next update fixes things…

I was beginning to think it was not going to happen when it didn’t appear in early Nov.
I’m going to give it a try, Max 2010 seems a bit slugish in XP 64.

UPDATE:

This is the reply I have gor from Nvida. There is now a Maxtreme driver for Max 2010 (download link below).

Please note I have not tried this yet so cannot say if it works or not, just passing on the info…

1) To avoid download issues, if you are running any 3rd party download utilities, please disable them as they are known for occasionally causing errors with the downloads.

2) Please download and save the graphic card driver on the desktop by visiting the page at the following link.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/maxtreme_12.00.07.html

3) Uninstall the existing driver by uninstalling the NVIDIA Display Drivers from the Add / Remove programs and restart the computer.

4) Please follow these steps to restart the computer in safe mode.

a. Restart the computer.
b. While the computer is restarting simultaneously, keep tapping the function key F8 on the keyboard.
c. Now, you will need to select Safe mode with Networking.

NOTE: Steps to enter into safe mode may differ for different manufacturers, kindly check with your computer manufacturer to enter accordingly.

5) On Boot up, you will get the Windows Installation Wizard “Found New Hardware” please cancel it or close it. Install the driver by double clicking on the saved driver icon on the desktop and follow the instructions. After installing, restart the computer.

Doesn’t install for me. I have Max 2010 and Windows 7 x64 and an FX3500 with the 191.66 drivers, but the installer claims it cannot find an installation of Max 2010 on my system.

The installation instructions included with the driver do not appear to be the same as yours - there is no mention of uninstalling Nvidia Windows drivers - in fact their presence is prerequisite and the MaxTreme driver is installed alongside.

Great - I couldn’t find anywhere to report the problem.
I just put the Maxtreme 2009 driver on a colleagues machine and it has at last enabled ‘zoom about mouse point’ in the Perspective VP. I’m hoping this driver might do the same for 2010.... I hate not having that working.
