Hi there,
I need some help with this. Any thoughts on how to model the outer wispiness of this image, i.e. the solar corona? I’m thinking pflow, except nothing I’ve tried even remotely looks good.

I assume you’re talking about the white glow around the moon? How about using volume light with a spotlight? That’s closer to how a solar eclipse happens than using particles.

Yes. Using the volume light does give part of the effect. It’s the streaminess of the solar corona that I’m trying to emulate as well. I can’t seem to get that right. I figured I’d use pflow to emulate that piece and the a volume light to add the background effect.

Here’s something using a combination of pflow and a lens effect glow. The pflow has a very large amount of motion blur on it and a density map for where the particles spawn. It needs more work, but should get you going in the right direction.
It also just goes out straight instead of going towards certain points like it shows a bit of in the image. To get that effect, you could make another pflow and use the find target test. If I get a chance later I might try and get it further along.

I spent a little more time working on this last night adding the find target tests and splitting it into two pflows and got it to look like this. With adjustments to the particle generation maps, you could get it to look more like the reference image (or whatever your desired result is).
