I think Paul must be either on vacation or very busy. He’s normally around in the rigging forum, been quiet lately.

Post some pics and I have make better comments. Bending the feathers is just that in my rig, I use a bend modifier on each of the feathers.

Well I used bend modifier to drive the feathers. The bends were driven by the offset of one dynamic spline from another fixed one.

Wish I’d known about that video last summer when i was working on my Amazon Hoplite Angel. I too tried using Pluck, and it really eventually slowed max down. It was supposed to be a 3D World Magezine contest entry, first prize was a copy of Max 2009 for a character render, and Max Design 2009 for an Arcetechual render. In the end, i cut off the feathered wings and gave her bat/deamon wings, but ran out of time before i could properly rig it.

But since I had to replace my hard-drive a couple of months ago (lost quite alot of work since it had been late last year when i last backed up before the drive failed), i’m now having to redo the last few stages of the character. I cut off the wings, but might add them back, if i can understand that video correctly.

Any chace a transcript of that video, or better yet, a full written tutorial appearing?

Thanks.

Looks good in the end result but two things that I don’t like and I only skipped over it really quickly. First off he is using IK solvers on the wings, wings are a rotational motion and far easier to animation with rotations to get all the over lap. There is just no need for IK. Second he is using springs in stead of flex, flex has more control and is faster when used on a spline.

Nice looking result how ever.
