Hi,

does anyone know how to position a Point Helper at the endpoint of the Taper Length in 3d space? I think it would extend the Taper in its use for rigging things. Have a look at the screenshot. I mean the magenta ones.

I know there is a mathematically way with vector analysis, but it’s to long ago to script it fast. Or is there a helper which has the same capability?

thanks and greets,
in5

The Align tool on the main toolbar. Make sure you pick the tape target not the tape object itself.

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

Then the helper is linked to the Taper Target but not to the line of the Length. Have a look at the Modifier Stack and play around with the Length when “Specify Length” is checked. Perhaps, then you will have a better suggestion of what I mean. At the end of the green line which is shifting I want to place the helper at in realtime.

Expose Transform?

I know the ExposeTm has got the ability to catch the distance between two points. But I don’t need a distance value or a length. I need the optical reference and an object where I can link others to.

Position Constraint.

Thanks for your replies Steve_Curley but have you understood what I’m trying to do? Just play around with the Length in a example scene.
Position Constraint would be a procedural positioning on the Taper itself, but not at this end point which I’m trying to use.

Ok, problem is solved. There was not as many mathematics to do as I thought at the beginning. The Screenshot shows the PositionScript which is positioning a HelpObject at the end of the Taper.Length value.

Thank you for posting the solution, it will help others in the future.
