I have been using SkinFX from Lumonix which has a very easy to use muscle system. It’s not a free plug-in but it’s a bargain for the functionality it provides.
Another option is to use CAT which is free of charge if you have an Autodesk subscription. CAT has a muscle system that works very well.
You can also achieve great results using Max bones but will require some time to set up and a good understanding of bones and rigging. I recommend Intermediate Rigging DVD set, particularly DVD #3 which covers muscle bones.
As for the approach you’re taking with Skin Wrap over a primitive object, I have never attempted that. Sounds like it should be doable but may require quite a bit of experimentation to get the results you want. I opted to take the easy way out and used a plug-in :P
Hope that helps, cheers.

thanks emat
I was thinking to add more bone in there as a muscle bone then made a sphere and make it the shape of the muscle how I want and make it related with that extra muscle bone then add a skinmorh and add that muscle bone and I think I will have proporties to play with the muscle objects vertexes.I dont know If Im wrong or right
and also I have seen a tutorial in http://www.3dfrankiev.com and he does it this way but he uses physique instead of skin but I dont think it will make a difference if you wantch you will see the influence
thanks
