Hey there,

just installed the SDK from the subscription download. It seems it does not contain the SDK help, and the link that is installed points to 2011 SDK help files. Any information about when these will be available and what VS configuration is needed for 2012 ?

Regards,
Thorsten

VS2010 IDE and VS2008 compiler.
VS2008 projects work also, but all max2012 samples use vs2010 project files.

sdk help is here: max2012 sdk help

Hey,

For our development we are using Visual Studio 2010.  However it is using the
2008 run times along with .Net 4.0.  So, I’d say you might have to use 2010
but there may be a way to go with 2008.

The help files shipped with the SDK have changed.  The old CHM’s were much better
than the new system.  To be honest I go back and use the 2011 SDK because there
is so much information there but I would guess that they took it and hid it
somewhere else.  Just not sure where.

I’m still using VS2008 - I did not even install VS2010 as I don’t know if it destroys all my older VS releases. I still have to support Max6!
I don’t care about the samples as they did not change very much since Max6.

I would also bother Autodesk - I’m also not happy with HTML help:
a) no option to print chapters
b) the search takes 10 times longer
Autodesk simply replied that CHM is not supported by MS anymore. They seem to be married with MS.
And I’m still using Max9 help.

That’s very true HTML help is a nightmare. Search scripts crash after a couple of searches and are inefficient. I stick with last CHM version for 2011. It’s a shame Autodesk switched to a bloated, messy inferior solution.

Officially, the VS2008 runtime is required. But I’ve successfully compiled various plugins using Visual C++ 2010 SP1 that are running on Max 2010, 2011 and 2012 (both 32 and 64 bit). The only requirement was to switch library and header files in case of binary incompatibility.

Yeah I also miss .CHM

Yeah I also miss .CHM

Please directly also mail Autodesk. Tne problem is, they don’t get response from users and therefore think they did everything right.
