Ok for these I know I could write a script, but who has the time?
When you want to update a texture that happens to be saved in several Scene States, you have to restore each one, apply your changed material, and resave the Scene State. It’s a several step process and if you have a lot, it’s super duper tedious. If you’re primarily using the scene states for a hiding/showing a bunch of objects, but also have a couple textures you need to render each one with, the same couple textures are all the same. Now if you were actually storing variations of the textures, this wouldn’t be as useful.
Something else that I always thought Max should do: When you restore a Scene State it could check the Material Editor and see if the texture is the same in there and re-instance it to the scene. I don’t know how many times I’ve restored a state and started changing a material only to realize it’s not changing the scene anymore.
